Weber Grill was started in the 1950s by an ingenious welder named George Stephen. With experience in welding metal buoys for the US Coast Guard in his work for the Weber Brothers Metal Works, George was inspired to use the rounded buoy shape instead of the flat brazier design of the home grills available at that time. With some trial and innovation to create the best air flow – the first models quickly evolved into the beautiful Kettle design we now know so well.
The key to the kettle grills success is the ability to distribute heat evenly. With the clever air vent system in the bottom and top, the cook is now able to control the air flow and make adjustments for the type of food being cooked. Increasing the airflow will increase the cooking temperature, and restricting the airflow allows for lower cooking temperature and slower burning of the charcoal.
